Summer Solstice Assembly/Presentation 21st June 2021 Key Stage 2 Have you ever wondered why the days are so long in the summer and so short in the winter? The length changes throughout the year. Around June 20th or 21st, we experience what’s known as ‘The Summer Solstice’, which is the longest day of the year. People from many cultures have held summer solstice celebrations for thousands of years. Summer is a time to celebrate renewal, life, fertility and the potential for a good harvest. It’s been celebrated with outdoor feasts, festivals, singing, dancing, and bonfires. It’s Christmas! Ten original, percussion-based, Christmas-themed pieces suitable for pupils in years 5, 6, 7 and 8. Ideal for Christmas shows, carol services, reviews and Christmas-themed music lessons. Minimal resources are required, only bells, chime bars, cymbals, glockenspiels, triangles and claves/woodblocks and not all are needed for every piece! Pupils learn about the percussion family, how to play their instruments correctly, how to read, play and perform using lettered score with the option of a traditional notated music score. Pupils also learn to use range of musical terms and signs. Each piece has detailed step-by-step instructions and printable scores. In order to support your delivery, you will find MIDI file recordings of each song. You do not need a musical background to perform these compositions. This pack includes; • Easy to follow, step by step instructions for every piece • Information and support regarding the percussion instruments • A glossary of musical terms and signs • MIDI file recordings of each piece.
